CONIFER, Colo., June 23, 2023— The South Platte Ranger District of the Pike-San Isabel National Forests & Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands will host a meeting regarding upcoming prescribed fire treatments. The meeting is open to the public and is scheduled from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. on June 29, 2023, at the North Fork Volunteer Fire Station located at 19384 County Road 126, Pine, Colorado 80470. The intent of the meeting will be to share information on upcoming prescribed fires in Sand Springs and Spring Creek especially with residents who live in the Spring Creek subdivision and Buffalo Creek.
These projects are a continuation of the hazardous fuels management work that the South Platte Ranger District has implemented to improve forest health, minimize the risk to firefighters, and improve public safety. Prescribed fire is an effective land management tool used to reduce the accumulation of hazardous fuels and to lessen the impacts of future wildfires.
Implementation of the Sand Springs and Spring Creek prescribed fires are expected to begin June 30, 2023, if weather and forest vegetation conditions meet project prescriptions. Ignitions will take place when conditions are optimal to ensure that the fire behavior will be within the burn plan limitations, and substantial smoke impacts are unlikely to affect the surrounding communities. Burning may continue for several days to several weeks during these fire treatments.
